looking for a vegan omega-3?

I know that many nutritionist and medical experts feel that the best source of omega-3’s are fish oil (animal sources). But, as a vegan I just cannot accept that limited point of view. I want to use plants, fruits and vegetable sources for my nutrition.

Our oceans, lakes and rivers are overfished and the pollution has made our fish  toxic. Perhaps the benefits of finding high grade plant based omega-3 fatty acid supplements are a great choice.

My choice is flaxseed oil which is a balance of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acid oils. The oil contains lignans, which are thought to contain antioxidants which could help prevent certain types of cancer. This claim has not yet been substantiated but it is a promising line of research to be examined further. Flaxseed oil also contains a rich concentration of alpha-linolenic acid which is proven to be very good for the heart.

Clinical studies suggest that flaxseed oil and other omega-3 fatty acids may be helpful in treating a variety of conditions. The benefits of omega-3 essential fatty acids are more numerous than I expected as I began researching their benefits. Following are some of the benefits:

  • High Cholesterol
  • Heart Disease
  • Sjogren’s syndrome (dry eye)
  • Prostate health
  • Inflammation (associated with lupus and gout)
  • Reducing cancer risks
  • Mental acuity
  • Help minor bruises and sprains heal faster
  • Increase the body’s moisture to help prevent eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff
  • Can boost the body’s energy production and stamina

There may be more benefits but these are the main ones that I found. A great website for information is: flaxseed-oil.net

Now you’ll want a safe, effective, healthy and independently tested vegan source for an omega-3 supplement

Peace and Kindness,
