HOORAY!!! This came to my email. Someone who not only got something done in Congress, but, something that will protect our food sources. Say THANK YOU!! And, if you have been signing those petitions, give yourself a pat on the back. It’s all of our voices – TOGETHER – that is being heard.
The United States needs to join other countries around the world that are rejecting genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and then, in the US they don’t need to label it. You would have gone to the store to buy salmon and NOT know if it was GMO or not. We have a right to know where, how and what is in our food!
Senator Begich’s amendment to label genetically engineered fish has passed in the Senate.
Congratulations – your efforts paid off!
On Friday, an amendment offered by Senator Mark Begich (D-AK) to require labeling of genetically engineered fish was passed by a voice vote in the Senate.
In his speech, Seantor Begich noted that over 60 countries currently require labeling of GE foods, including Russia, China and the European Union. Additionally, he pointed out that over 2,000 grocery stores across the U.S., including Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, have commited to not sell genetically engineered seafood.
While the Senate’s budget plan is non-binding, the passage of the Begich amendment will further increase the pressure on the FDA to label genetically engineered foods.
We encourage you to send a thank you letter to Senator Begich for protecting our right to know by introducing this amendment, and working to drum up support in the Senate.
As always, thank you for taking action.

Just Label It
We’re building a movement of concerned citizens – parents, health care workers, small business owners, farmers, and more – who care about what’s in the food we eat.
In October 2011, the Just Label It campaign was formed when the Center for Food Safety filed a petition with the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to require the labeling of all foods produced using genetic engineering. Days later, we asked citizens from around the country to join us and tell the FDA to “Just Label It.” More than 1.2 million Americans have contacted to the FDA urging them to label genetically engineered foods. Ask others to sign on at www.JustLabelIt.org/takeaction.
